Tribeca Feline Flat
CLIENT: PRIVATE CLIENT
DETAILS: INTERIOR DESIGN
The Tribeca Feline Flat is a residence that reflects the client’s character and approach to living. Having previously commissioned a custom home by Olson Kundig in Seattle, the client sought a New York–based perspective to create a counterpart that feels unmistakably rooted in the city.
Set in one of downtown Manhattan’s most sought-after neighborhoods, the apartment features rare architectural qualities: a dramatic double-height volume, exposed steel beams, expansive industrial windows, timeworn brick walls, and sweeping city views. Our design approach leaned into these elements, extending the industrial and masculine tone through unconventional materials while balancing it with tactile, crafted details.
The living space is anchored by a continuous L-shaped sofa upholstered in rich, dark velvet. Flexible in use, it allows the room to shift easily from intimate lounging to larger gatherings. Overhead, large-scale pendants made from recycled sailcloth descend through the double-height space, functioning as a sculptural installation and visual focal point.
An aluminum-paneled floor carries the material narrative into the kitchen, where custom cabinetry and the island are clad entirely in brushed stainless steel. The sleek, reflective surfaces create a deliberate contrast with the rawness of the existing structure, reinforcing the apartment’s avant-garde character.
The Tribeca Feline Flat reflects our belief that a home should feel deeply personal and unapologetically at ease with oneself. By pushing material boundaries and embracing the building’s inherent character, the project becomes a distinctly New York residence designed for a client with a visionary point of view.
